    AFFTON 5 RUN

    Good morning Troop and Parents,

THE AFFTON 5 Swerve group from RMS has planned a 2nd annual run for this year.  As many of you know this year’s run will take place April 27th.  Mesnier will have a drink station set up again.  Mr. Smith asked if we could enlist the help of Troop 821 at the drink station.  We will only need 3-4 volunteers at the most.  If you are interested please let Mrs. Edgar know. jedgar@afftonschools.net or speedracer5548@yahoo.com

For those of you paying attention to the calendar the Run date conflicts with the dates for Spring Camporee.  No worries if you already signed up for camp.  There will be plenty of opportunites in the future to earn service hours.

Thanks for your help! Go AFFTON 5!!!

    A FEW CAMPING REMINDERS

To those who are going camping this weekend.

    1.  We will meet at the Administration building at 6pm and leave at 6:15

    2.  No Electronics including cell phones.  If you have an emergency you can contact me 314-591-6800.

    3.  Come already fed dinner and wear your Class A.

    4.  Boys are sleeping in tents and cooking on their own.  They will need their mess kits,  a cup and water bottle.

    5.  Warm sleeping bag and it’s also a good idea to bring a ground cloth for inside the tent.  Something like an old plastic table cloth or shower curtain works good.

    6.  Weather can be anything – BE PREPARED!!  Extra shoes.

    7.  We will plan on being home around noon on Sunday.   We will call when we are leaving camp.

    Thanks,

    Mr. Piel

OA One Day of Service Update

    Troop,

Please see latest message about One Day of Service.  See previous post for link to registration.

One Day of Service is on March 29. This year the Shawnee Lodge will be helping with tasks around Willmore Park right here in St. Louis. Make sure you sign up for the event. It is 100% free, however we need you to register to guarantee you a lunch. Registration closes March 22, so do it quickly!

Some items to bring include: hiking/work boots (no open toe shoes), water bottle, work gloves, safety glasses, and a first aid kit. These are essential to ensure the safety of our Arrowmen. The work that we are doing may also require wheelbarrows, tarps, loppers, hand saws, pruning shears, rakes, and other equipment of this type. If you have any of these, please bring them.

Registration at the event will begin at 8AM and we should start working at 8:30AM. The best part about this year’s One Day of Service is that we should be finished by 12 noon. Instead of going back to work in the afternoon, Shawnee Lodge will be holding a Grand Hodag, or gigantic and epic party, for the Arrowmen. Activities to partake in include knife throwing, tomahawk throwing, a lodgeball tournament, dunking booths, sports (bring a Frisbee – there is a Frisbee golf course), food, including snow cones, music, and, making their epic and long-awaited return, HUMAN HAMSTER BALLS!

    March Scrips

Finally, the days are longer!  Today was the first day, in a long time, that all has felt right again.  Spring is peeking around the corner, in 10 short days to be exact.  But who’s counting.  As we spent some time Sunday working in the yard, my mind began making a list of all the upcoming projects around the house.

As luck may have it this week we turn in Scrips orders.  Please keep in mind all of those projects.  Lowe’s has a 1% bonus this month.  Perfect timing.  Stockpile a couple of cards. The furnace filter probably needs to be changed, new batteries in the smoke detector, and it’s time to put the lettuce in!

Let me know if you have any questions.  Our email is speedracer5548@yahoo.com.  Remember any *** you see on the order form, indicates a bonus.  Orders due at this Thursday’s COH Troop meeting, and will be returned next Thursday at the meeting. Remember to include the order form with your check.  Your Scouts name must be on the form as well.

Click here for the Scrips order form March Scrips.

    Enjoy,

    Jennifer
