    Thursday Meeting!

We are going to have our first in person meeting since March on Thursday, July 16th.

Location: Willmore Park – 7200 Hampton – Hampton/Gravois area behind the Walgreens

Where: By the fishing lake and dog park. I will find a empty spot.

    Time: 6:45

Scouts and parents MUST wear a face mask. Bring your own lawn chair. Bring a frizbee so we can still play a game while socially distancing.

    Uniform – Class B

We will start working on requirements for Second and First Class for the first year Scouts.

Scouts that need to meet requirements for Life (you can do this even if you are Star) need to talk to us on Thursday so we can include them in the upcomming meetings.

    Troop & Council Updates

    http://stlbsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/2020-BSA-Health-Forms-ABC.pdf

All Scouts and Scouters need to have forms A and B for any weekend camping we will be doing. At this time, all forms are outdated.Download the form to your computer and do a “save as”.

Once you do that, you can type on the form. Then, save it again before you print it.

If you are taking your Scout for a school physical, take Part C with you to the doctor.

It seems like it is one step forward, two steps backwards.

As of today, Council has an Activities Request form that we must fill out and submit for any district or council activity that include a total number of face to face participants of more than ten.

I had wanted to start in person meetings at Willmore Park off of Gravois and Hampton. Their ball fields are not in use, so it is perfect to be able to social distance in our own lawn chairs.

As of now, I have reserved the special use area at Babler State Park for August 7 – 9. We are doing this camping trip because of the modified requirements for the first year Scouts to be members of the OA. Obviously, we would have to wear masks even outdoors and constant reminders to wash hands. (This is why I wanted a park with shower/restroom facilities – hot water!)

This is where we need parent feedback:

Are you comfortable with the Troop meeting in person?

    Troop Updates

We will not have a meeting this week.

At this time, we are going to have to cancle Space Jam. (August 7 – 9) One of our Council’s guidelines is no carpooling. Every scout attending would have to be driven in a car by a family member. Also, Illinois is only allowing gatherings of 50 or less.

We will be camping the weekend of August 7 – 9. We need to ensure our first year Scouts meet Order of Arrow eligibility. I am working on finding a special use area that is close to St. Louis. Again, all Scouts will have to be driven in their own family’s vehicle and no carpooling.

    OA Elections / Requirements

Thursday, June 25th at 7 pm is OA elections. It is important that all Scouts attend to vote.  As this site is not secure, I can’t post the Zoom link. Please email me at laura.e.tague@sbcglobal.net for the information.

The OA has new guidelines for a “Temporary Camping Night Policy”. This will effect our first year Scouts. Normally, to qualify to be on the OA ballott, one of the requirements is to have attended a long term summer camp.

Under the temporary guidelines, a long-term camp plan must be developed. It must include progress toward rank advancement.

I am working on a packet for 1st & 2nd Class Requirements. There will be some that Scouts can do at home. For some of the home requirements, family will be the patrol. Others, will have to be done in person, under Council Guidelines, small Patrols at a local park.

This may have to be done on two weekend day since most parks have a sunset curfew.

The Scouts must also do five, yes five, nights of virtual camping. The OA defines Virtual Camping as “Virtual camping (i.e., backyard or solo camping)”

At this time, my idea is to meet as a troop on a Saturday or Sunday split into Patrols to cover some requirements.

Have the five nights of Virtual Camping, then meet at the end ot cover some additional requirements.(This is still a work in progress.)

    Meeting Updates

We will be having a meeting this Thursday. We will discuss the Family Life Merit Badges. Scouts need to be able to say what their “chores” around the house are. Also, if your family has done a family project recently, they can talk about that.

If you need the Zoom Meeting Information, email me. It is a different link than what we had. – laura.e.tague@sbcglobal.net

Other important information: Thursday, June 25th at 7 pm is OA elections. It is important that all Scouts attend to vote. I will post the Zoom Link next Monday.

Our Tenderfoot Scouts need to do the BSA Swimming test for rank advancement. Jessie has offered the use of her pool to us as a group. This is something I would like to schedule for late July, mid August before school starts.

    Updates

We will not have a meeting this Thursday due to another GSLAC conflict I have.

OA Elections will be Thursday, June 25 @ 7 PM. I am waiting for exact details.

Kia Kima has published their virtual Merit Badge List. If you click on the name of the Merit Badge, it will take you to the registration link. Parents will have to create an account https://www.kiakima.net/scouts-bsa-programs.html

GSLAC will also be having Zoom Merit Badges. This is the link: https://stlbsa.org/achievement/advancement/merit-badge-skill-centers/

I will be working on Family Life, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship in the World for the Troop. As soon as I get them ready, I will post.
